Services Offered by Springhill Tree Management

Below you will find a list of some of the services offered, and a brief explanation of what they are.

We offer a 24/7 emergency service to cover such events as storm/wind damage or the removal of dead and dangerous trees.

As well as offering tree pruning and shaping we also offer the following tree surgery. Please contact us for a quote, we will need to visit the site in order to give a quote.

Crown Reduction -
The reducing of secondary minor branches to achieve a reduction in the size of the crown. This has to be to a growth point (junction or node/internode) of the tree's branches. They can involve the reduction of part or all of a tree.

Crown Thinning - This is where a proportion of the secondary branches within the crown of the tree are removed. The size of the tree will remain the same although the tree will appear to be less dense.

Crown Lifting - The removal of minor secondary branches, up to a fixed height. It is often used for describing the height of branches necessary for traffic to pass underneath or to prevent branches hitting a roof.

Heights? No worries.

Stump Grinding

Tree Felling - This can be either straight felling where there is enough access and little chance of damage, or sectional dismantling, where a tree has poor access or is likely to do damage to objects close by.

Stump Grinding - Grinding is carried out with a machine that has a rotating disc equipped with tungsten tipped teeth. When placed on the root it chips the wood away and mixes it with the local soil. This process removes unwanted/unsightly stumps to below ground level. The area could then be paved or turf laid.

Pollarding - Trees often have this treatment to their detriment. It can cause massive damage to the tree, and affects its ability to survive. At the same time the resulting epicormic shoots often create a bad structure for the crown of the tree, that will have later management implications. It should only be undertaken if there is no other alternative. We feel at Springhill Tree Management that pollarding or 'topping' is the last stage before felling. In almost every case felling is a much better option.

Systemic Poison - Because of the nature of some tree roots we use a herbicide that is absorbed by the tree and then distributed along its existing root system. This means that the natural ability of some trees to sucker from the roots is prevented.

Woodchipping - All the branches are passed through a woodchipping machine. This reduces the bulk for transporting and also makes a usable residue. Although there is value to Springhill Tree Management in these woodchippings, we are only too pleased to leave these for your use either on a garden or for a rustic pathway.

Timber - This has no value to Springhill Tree Management but it can be cut into approx 1m lengths and left tidily on site for the client to use as required, or we can remove it from the site.
Arisings - All arisings removed are disposed of responsibly. Work sites are left clean and tidy.

Crane - We have a crane for heavy lifting and to assist with dismantling large mature trees.
